What is CADR test?
CADR – Clean Air Delivery Rate is an industry standard testing methodology that was specifically designed
by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers based in US. The whole idea behind the test is to let the
consumers know that – the product is up to what the brand claims. The test is based on ANSI/AHAM AC-1
Test. The whole test takes place in a chamber and expose the air purifier to air pollutants. Once the test is
done after a certain duration, it is then given a CADR Rating – which you’ll either see printed on the side of
the box or in the manuals.
How is the CADR test performed?
For example, a compact laboratory - its size is 28.5 m3and it captures three particles to be specific: Dust,
pollen, and tobacco smoke on one Sensor which maps and monitors the small test chamber. Now the thing
about this test is that it has its fair share of flaws. For one, it only detects three particles and one sensor only
and in our everyday world we are exposed to more than three particles. When you add the equation into real
homes, it doesn’t quite add up because the particles that aren’t captured gets released into the environment.
The duration of the test is another flaw because it may be effective in the first half hour as it claims to be but
what if it isn’t every minute after that?
