The smell emitted by the newly laid plastic track is harmful to the human body.
The main component of the plastic track is polyurethane, which will emit a relatively pungent smell. In addition, some additives and glues in the track that are conducive to laying will also emit a relatively strong smell. Outdoor air is flowing, and wind and rain will affect it, and the detection of air components is inaccurate. Therefore, there is no specific standard for how much the smell is considered toxic.


Generally speaking, plastic runways are mainly composed of two layers of rubber filling particles and an intermediate adhesive polyurethane. Polyurethane is divided into TDI type and MDI type. TDI type polyurethane is more volatile, has a pungent smell and considerable toxicity. The source of its smell is mainly unreacted polyurethane monomer, some of which are controlled by the public security department. .


People with long-term exposure will develop symptoms such as chest tightness, collapse, sneezing, and even bronchitis, emphysema, asthma and other illnesses.
MDI is less toxic than TDI. Substituting MDI for the prepolymer synthesized by TDI can effectively reduce the free TDI content. This not only protects the health of production operators and construction workers, but also helps protect the environment. However, MDI polyurethane has only been gradually used by some manufacturers in recent years, and most domestic manufacturers have not yet fully mastered the MDI proportioning technology.
In addition, when mixing the raw materials of the plastic track, a substance called plasticizer (ie, plasticizer) will be added, which will reduce the viscosity of the track when laying and make it easier to lay. The most commonly used compounds are phthalate esters, which account for more than 80% of all plasticizer products. They are mainly used in soft PVC products to improve the flexibility, ductility and usability of PVC. Although this substance is not very volatile, it is equally harmful to the human body.
When the plastic runway surface is synthesized, the VOC environmental test chamber of the plastic runway surface should be used to conduct standard testing of the VOC release amount. It must comply with the standard release amount stipulated by the country.
The plastic runway surface VOC environmental testing chamber is mainly used for testing VOC in plastic surfaces and runways; testing formaldehyde and VOC release in wood products and building decoration materials; researching the release of pollutants in materials; and environmental label product certification.
